According to Foreign Minister Tajani, the target was the US armed forces, which share the base with Italy. Tajani, in Brussels today for the Council of Foreign Ministers, responded to questions by stating that a diplomatic effort is needed to free the Strait of Hormuz. He implicitly ruled out the possibility of sending military ships, as requested by the United States.
The number of migrant arrivals in Lampedusa is rising. Yesterday afternoon, a boat capsized; 64 people were rescued, but a two-year-old boy from Sierra Leone has not been found. Searches are ongoing.
