They were highly experienced divers; among the victims were a marine biologist from the University of Genoa and the instructor who owned the agency organizing the trip and the dives.

At the Italian Parliament, an opposition lawmaker staged a protest by handcuffing himself because the majority continues to refuse to convene the parliamentary commission tasked with overseeing RAI. Roberto Giachetti, who has been on a hunger strike for 12 days, announced that he will not end his protest until concrete commitments are made.
